I wish I could knit and write at the same time. This would be a great feat, if I could figure this out. I have lots of writing that needs to get done - a dissertation that has been on hold for the last few weeks, though I really need to do some reading for this (which can be done while knitting), I just can't get myself to the right library. I have tons of thank you notes to write for baby shower gifts, for a shower that was (gasp!) two months ago. So, all I want to do is knit these days, particularly today since it is cold and dreary and rainy. But, oh well - I have to get these notes written. I don't want HTK to be here and not have them done. Good thing - he's still content to stay where he is.
I'm also toying with the idea of making these wonderful things. They are perfect for the fall - and for me, since I was born on halloween and I'm cooking a little pumpkin right now too. We will also likely have our first home-based Thanksgiving this year, since we probably won't be travelling, so it would be fun to have some cool little pumpkins for the table. Well, we'll see how much knitting time I'll have in a few weeks and then decide on the pumpkins.
And, as promised - a picture of my sock in progress:
So, I promised pics of my first sewing project too. Well, here it is:

It's a needle roll for my DPNs. I keep losing them, since I don't have a great way to store them. I decided to make this as a sort of test piece. It's not the greatest job in the world, but it should work fine. I still need to get some ribbon to tie it up with. I think I'll get orange to match the lining fabric. I'm not quite sure what possessed me to make it black and orange. A few weeks ago, I bought a few pieces of black and orange fabric. I'm not sure why but I was just struck with these colors when I was in the store, so I bought them. It makes for a good needle roll, though, cause the black won't show dirt (though it does pick up a lot of lint!) and the orange gives it an unexpected surprise inside. As you can see, I've already started filling it with needles. I just need to find the rest of my DPNs. I know I have size 4 and 5 that I can't find right now. And I have a lone 7 that is missing from this pile that I can hopefully find, too.
The good thing is that I figured out the machine and now I'm excited to make all sorts of things. :)
