Socktoberfest update

Well, I'm plugging along on my broadripple sock. I've completed the leg and turned the heel. Now I'm working on the gussets. I promise to post some photos tomorrow - along with my first sewing project. It's a knitterly project.  :) I found a threading diagram online and then played around with the sewing machine enough to figure how how to make some simple stitches. I promise to give a more thorough update tomorrow.

It was finally a nice day today - well, yesterday was nice, too.  But after 8 days of rain, it was nice to see the sun. It was a bit windy, but tolerable. Larry and I went into Princeton and walked around all afternoon.  It was so much fun. We had a late lunch and went shopping for a bit. L was looking for some shoes and I hit my LYS.  They have some really great new stuff in. I haven't been there in a while, and it was fun to see all the nice stuff. I picked up some Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in Tuscany. It's a beautiful fall colorway. I can't wait to find a nice pattern to make them into.

Started on the Broadripple socks last night.  They're coming along quickly, which is good. I'll try to take a picture sometime this week.

Oh - and I hope you like the new look. I was in need of a change.

broadripple beginnings

Just a quick Socktoberfest update.
I swatched for broadripple, though I was lazy and didn't do an entire swatch. I still think it will work. I'm gonna sit down this afternoon and try to get some knitting done. Geez there's so much to do to get ready for a baby!!

Also wanted to thank Lauren for the green Knit Picks Shine. I love the color!! Can't wait to find something cute to make with it.

Well, hope everyone enjoyed Rhinebeck. Maybe I'll make it next year.... maybe.

Sewing anyone?

I've been wanting to start sewing, but I've had too much going on and knitting is enough of a distraction. I decided not to buy a sewing machine to try and diminish the distraction factor. 

But, a few weeks ago, my mom brought me her vintage 1960s Singer sewing machine when she was here.

    

I haven't had a chance to really look at it or experiment with it, but I opened up the case over the weekend. She thought there was an instruction manual in the case, but unfortunately there wasn't so I'm not really sure how to use it. And I'm so bummed because I just missed an ebay auction for a manual for this exact machine!!  I found some photocopied manuals that I can purchase online, so I might break down and do that, but I think I'll see if something else turns up on ebay any time soon.  And then have mom show me how to use it when she's here next.

But the cool thing is that it has all the accessories and everything!

I'm so excited to use it, once I figure out how to use it.

As for my socks for socktober, I think I've decided to try the Broadripple sock pattern with my Cascade fixation.  I'm hoping that the pattern is fairly easy, and I'm excited to make some socks that are more than just a simple sock pattern.

I also went to ACMoore today.  They have a bunch of new yarns, including a lovely one called Peru DK. It is in the same line as the Cashmere Luxury yarn, but this one is an Alpaca silk blend.  I bought 3 skeins of a beautiful purple.  I'll try to post a picture of it tomorrow. The weather has been less than cooperative (rainy and dreary) so the lighting isn't so good.

Oh - and as promised, here's my itty bitty sweater for H.  I left in the coke can for scale.  It's so tiny!! Though in looking at this picture, it doesn't look so tiny.  I can't wait to see him in it.

I finished seaming the raglan last night. This little 0-3 mo. sweater is so adorable. I can't wait to see H in it. :) But I can't wait to see H, too.  Less than 3 weeks till my due date!! Whew - time flies.

I've decided - just now in fact - to joing Lolly's Socktoberfest knit along. I started some Cascade Fixation socks a while back and I'm not too happy with the pattern (it's just a simple pattern, but I want something a bit more jazzy).  So I'm gonna rip them out and start something new. I figure that a small project like socks can be finished quickly, so before the big day.

Things are pretty crazy around here, too, so some simple sock knitting should be a nice relief.  We're still trying to fix up the house and get things settled before H arrives. It's amazing how many things come up when you buy a house - particularly one that seems to not have had any work done on it since it was built 65 years ago.  Well, I guess it has had some work done - but not much.

Hmm.. I'll try to post some house pictures this week, too.  The ones on the side bar are from when we were house hunting, so it will be nice to have some lived in shots - although the house is such a mess, so you'll have to ignore the boxes lying here and there.  Anyway, Kristin wants some pics too, and even though she's coming to visit in a few weeks (yipee!) I should indulge her repeated requests for pictures of the house.
